Barbara Floyd Obituary

 

Barbara Faye Floyd entered this earthly realm on Oct. 28,1945 in Chattanooga Tennessee.

She was born the only daughter to the late Helen Johnson Barkley Mullins and Joe Barkley. Growing up with her half-brother “CL” and her large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins she was a happy child full of life, laughter, and lit up the room with her charm. Barbara Faye's mother later married John Mullins fondly and lovely called “Daddy John” by her.

She completed her education graduating from Howard High School. Her high school sweetheart was Alfred but they never married. She married Edward Floyd to this union were no children. This marriage was dissolved.

At an early age her spiritual journey began and she was baptized and joined St. Elmo Baptist Church. Later Barbara and her mother joined St. Paul A.M.E Church.  It was there that she came into full bloom.

Barbara served as the Immediate Past President of the Ester Dungeon Missionary Society until she took ill. She also faithfully served as a Stewardess and monthly assisted with communion, sharply dressed from head to toe in white.

A true songbird, she was a member of the Senior Choir, Gospel Choir and the Payton McCallie Sims Inspirational Choir. She was often a featured soloist blessing family and friends with her lovely gift of song.

Retiring from Blue Cross & Blue Shield after 25 years of service and then later her love for children bringing her to work at Granny’s Baby Day Care Center where she found an abundance of love from young Jamiyah Collins and her mom Rikita Halfacre.

Barbara Faye completed her course on Thursday Jan. 28, 2021 after succumbing to a fatal heart attack and months of illness.

She is survived a host of loving family members and friends. Including her Aunt Betty Jean Ray and cousins Lorretta, Sherial Faye (Tommy) Campbell and Virginia Stafford.

In her later years she was blessed to have young cousins Ivan (Salina) and Nathan (Terri) Roshell the grandsons of her beloved “Aunt Ethel” to care and look after her as well as those special ones that she loved and loved her.

Barbara Faye loved her family and many relatives, her love also spread to others outside of the family like her faithful friends Alberta Gilbert, Elluwead Love, Cynthia Walker, Rikita Halfacre and Tharyl Brown and many special others dear to her.

 

Dear Sweet Barbara Faye,

 

Rest in Peace

Your struggle is over.

We love you and will miss you dearly.

But we know that now your memories are restored.

You’ve greeted the Lord and all of those loved ones that went before you.

Rest and know that you impacted all the lives of everyone that knew you.
