David Lee Dorris II was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on July 19, 1942. He was the third of five siblings born to David and Minnie (Ballou) Dorris. At an early age he attended Friendship Baptist Church and eventually joined Grace Memorial CME Church. He attended public schools: Joseph E. Smith, Calvin Donaldson and Howard High.
After visiting relatives one summer in New York City, David decided to relocate there. He went on to pursue his GED and then attended Boces at Southern Westchester and studied auto mechanics in Valhalla, New York. Although he was a trained auto mechanic, he went to work as a lineman at New York Telephone Company and later at Con Edison until he retired. His passion was landscaping (he had a green thumb).
Proceeding him in death is his mother and father, brother, Patrick, and sister, Dianne L.
He leaves behind loving and precious memories to his sisters Dorcilla V. Long and Donna M. Hamilton, nephews David N. Long and Isaac D. Hamilton, niece Hope L. Hamilton, cousin Herman (Charlene) Dorris, second cousins and special friends Deacon Gregory L. Black, Felicia Johnson, Cynthia Taylor and Barbara Thomas.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 10:00AM at Stanley United Methodist Church 501 Dodson Ave. Funeral to follow at 11:00AM with Rev. AJ Holman officiating. Internment at Lakewood East Memorial Gardens.
